For example, where an attack lands on an enemy will determine where their skin gets torn, and when they come into contact with fire, their faces will melt. The city and its surroundings consist of several zones separated by loading screens. Despite the game's excellent combat system, some journalists found it inconvenient as fights with enemies often occur in cramped spaces, narrow alleyways, and corridors, which limits the player's freedom of movement. PC Gamer's reviewer claims the game takes about 15-20 hours to complete, depending on whether players choose to complete side quests. They noted that while abilities cards that fit into special slots don't bring enough variety to the game, there is a sense of freedom in open spaces that allows for more dynamic fights. Despite criticisms, many reviewers praised Dead Island 2's hilarious atmosphere and humor, setting it apart from other games in the genre, offering a great blend of storytelling and comedic characters.
