Dead Island 2, the highly-anticipated first-person zombie game announced back in 2014, has finally been previewed by top publications, who spent about five hours playing the game. While the combat system received praise, the game's repetitive and somewhat inconvenient gameplay may end up being a turn-off for players. The game starts with the crash of the main characters' airplane, leaving them stranded in a Los Angeles filled with zombies. Players can choose one of six different characters, each with their own strengths and weaknesses and unique abilities to unlock as they progress. As with previous games in the series, a variety of cold weapons can be created from various items found throughout the game's locations, and weapons can be upgraded as well. For instance, the "Engineer's Hammer" can be turned into the "Engineer's Cremator," which will set enemies on fire. One of the most significant new features of Dead Island 2 is its Flesh damage system, designed to make zombie injuries look more realistic. For example, where an attack lands on an enemy will determine where their skin gets torn, and when they come into contact with fire, their faces will melt. While reviewers at VGC praised the in-depth dismemberment details in the game, some critics criticized the linear and non-open world of Dead Island 2. The city and its surroundings consist of several zones separated by loading screens. Despite the game's excellent combat system, some journalists found it inconvenient as fights with enemies often occur in cramped spaces, narrow alleyways, and corridors, which limits the player's freedom of movement. PC Gamer's reviewer claims the game takes about 15-20 hours to complete, depending on whether players choose to complete side quests. They noted that while abilities cards that fit into special slots don't bring enough variety to the game, there is a sense of freedom in open spaces that allows for more dynamic fights. Despite criticisms, many reviewers praised Dead Island 2's hilarious atmosphere and humor, setting it apart from other games in the genre, offering a great blend of storytelling and comedic characters. Dambuster studios confirmed that it has carefully created not only the main characters but also the supporting cast, to give them unique personalities that will stand out. Dead Island 2 is set to release on April 21st on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series. #DeadIsland2 #ZombieGame #Gaming #PC #PS4 #PS5 #XboxOne #XboxSeries
