Apple's Next Generation of iPad Pro Models to Get OLED Screens from LG and Samsung
Apple has reportedly placed an order for the development of OLED panels for its upcoming iPad Pro models, with LG Display and Samsung as the chosen suppliers. According to Business Korea, the orders are for 10.9-inch and 12.9-inch OLED panels, leaving rival display maker BOE out of the picture.
Korean display makers are said to be manufacturing the OLED panels for the iPad using their sixth-generation line, which measures 1500mm x 1850mm. Although the order volume of OLED displays for iPad Pro has yet to be finalized, it's speculated that Apple may divide the order equally between Samsung and LG.
Display analyst Ross Young has predicted that Apple will launch 11.1-inch and 13-inch OLED iPad Pro models in the first quarter of 2024. However, there's some confusion over the exact display dimensions, as different Korean reports appear to be citing different sources.
Apple currently offers a 12.9-inch mini-LED iPad Pro and an 11-inch iPad Pro with a traditional LCD display. With the 2024 update, Apple may bring the two iPad Pro models to feature parity.
As for the launch timing of Apple's new MacBook models with OLED displays, both reports suggest that new OLED 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will arrive in 2026. However, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg predicts a new MacBook Pro with an OLED display could arrive as early as 2025 and could also be the company's first touchscreen Mac.
