Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, recently announced the launch of "Meta Verified," a new subscription service for Facebook users. This service, offered at a cost of $11.99 per month for web users and $14.99 per month for iOS or iPad users, provides verification for users by requiring a government ID.
With Meta Verified, users can receive a blue badge, extra protection against impersonation, and direct access to customer support. The service will also provide users with increased visibility and reach, as well as access to exclusive features for personal expression.
Zuckerberg described the launch of Meta Verified as a way to increase authenticity and security across Meta services, following the lead of Twitter Blue. The same verification process will soon be made available on Instagram, though separate subscriptions will be required for each platform.
As a means of diversifying its revenue stream, Meta Verified provides Facebook with a steady source of monthly income. The service will initially launch in Australia and New Zealand this week before expanding to other countries.
Although the meaning of the verified badge is expanding with the launch of Meta Verified, existing verified accounts on Facebook and Instagram will not be affected. Meta will continue to test and learn as it expands the service to additional countries.
