Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, has hinted that he may be ready to step down from the position by the end of 2023. Speaking at the World Government Summit in Dubai, Musk said he wanted to stabilize the organization, get it on a financially healthy footing, and lay out a clear product roadmap before finding a successor. The search for a new CEO has been underway since December, but no serious contenders have yet been revealed.
Since acquiring Twitter for $44 billion USD in 2018, Musk has overseen major changes at the company, including more than 8,000 layoffs. He has also been working to reduce the spread of misinformation on the platform and encouraging government officials to use Twitter to engage directly with the public.
In December 2022, Musk ran a poll asking the Twitter community whether he should step down as head of the company, and he said he would abide by the results. The poll showed a clear preference for him to step down, and it seems that he has been working towards this goal ever since.
Musk has not provided any clues as to who might be a suitable candidate for the CEO role, but he did post a tweet with a photo of his dog Floki, captioned "The new CEO of Twitter is amazing." Whether this is a hint or just a joke remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the tech industry will be closely watching developments at Twitter over the next few months.
