Many leading gaming magazines publish reviews for this action adventure game. On Metacritic it scored an average of 67/100 from 25 reviews and on OpenCritic 69/100 from 34 reviews; with just 33% recommending it to others. Many reviewers noted that there were dynamic and impressive battles as well as a unique parkour system but according to IGN's author despite these features the game was still quite dull due to its generic story line and empty open world which made exploration uninteresting. Other journalists criticised its combat system with GameSpot’s reviewer noting that most fights were truly boring while older ones become repetitive and ceased being exciting at all. Some recognised an emotional ending however Eurogamer highlighted that much plot development needed taking place prior to getting there in order for players not be disappointed by their journey’s conclusion whilst GamingTrend gave a score of 90/100 reflecting more favourable opinion towards Forspoken overall (also Shacknews 6 / 10; VG247 3 / 5 & GameRant 3 / 5).
