Riot Games has suffered a major data breach with the source codes of some of its games and anti-cheat software being stolen by hackers. The hackers have since demanded a ransom of 10 million dollars in exchange for the complete deletion of all stolen data and information on how they carried out the attack.
According to Vice, who obtained a copy of the email sent by the hackers, they have also offered to provide tips to prevent future incidents and proof of their breach in the form of two PDF files containing catalogs of the source codes of League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, and Packman anti-cheat.
The hackers included a link to a Telegram channel for communication, which was visited by Vice journalists. The list of users in the chat included names that matched those of former Riot Games employees.
The hackers claim their main motive is financial gain and not to harm Riot Games or its players. The company is yet to make a statement on the matter.
