Tesla's Chief Designer, Franz von Holzhausen, recently sat down for an interview with Ryan McCaffrey on the Ride The Lightning podcast, where he discussed various topics, including the new Cybertruck. The interview, which was recorded at the automaker's Design Studio in Hawthorne, California, revealed some of the features that the Cybertruck will come with.
One of the features that von Holzhausen confirmed is the inclusion of a yoke steering wheel, similar to that of the refreshed Model S. The yoke has garnered mixed reactions from consumers, with some praising its unique design, while others have criticized it. However, von Holzhausen stated that the yoke makes sense for the Cybertruck, and when combined with Autopilot, it simplifies the overall user experience and interior cockpit.
Another design feature that von Holzhausen confirmed is the lack of door handles. Instead of cutting a hole in the ultra-hard 30X cold-rolled stainless steel door panel, the Cybertruck will feature door handles that work like the Model X front doors, automatically popping open when the owner approaches the vehicle. Additionally, von Holzhausen stated that there may be buttons for the doors, but it was unclear whether this applies to both the front and rear doors.
Von Holzhausen also discussed other topics like the Cybertruck's stainless steel finish and how scratches will be removed. He also teased that there are still features that have yet to be announced and that they will be "pleasant surprises" that are the "right competitive things for the product."
