Artist: Evgeny Yurichev @evgenyyurichev
Location: Novokuznetsk, Russia
🖼”Hello everyone, my name is Evgeny Yurichev, I'm 36, I live in the city of Novokuznetsk (Russia) and work for EVRAZ as an artist, I draw comics, posters, sometimes cartoons) In my free time, I draw, do something for you, and post it on Instagram 🙂
Sometimes I get a little lucky and get to work with other companies such as Sideshow Collectibles or Epic Games.
More or less, I have become popular since 2017, when I started uploading my work to Artstation and in the not too distant future on Instagram. And I still try to please my subscribers with something cool 🙂"
❓Who or what influenced your art style the most at the beginning of your journey?
🗣 If I start from early childhood, then probably the first inspiration was Ninja Turtles 😄 As a teenager, I was passing through Moscow and accidentally came across a newsstand and comics were being sold there, I wanted to buy one, but the seller said - buy 3, I'll give a discount. And so I bought a spider-man, where the artist was Humberto Ramos, I first opened comics only on the train, since I did not have time to look in advance - I was lucky that it happened because if I had looked at them in advance, I would not buy. And on the train, I saw the work of Ramos for the first time, and I did not like them at all and put it on the back burner. After a long time, I was sorting through old things and found these comics, having torn off which I realized how cool Humberto Ramos really is) And still for me, this is one of the most magnificent artists! 100% I drew a lot from his work, but I am very far from him, Ramos is a real professional.
❓How did you start your professional career?
🗣 Professionally as an artist, I started working around 2014 and it happened quite by accident. I already worked for EVRAZ as a 3D modeler, but my boss saw my drawings and gradually began to ask me to draw various comics and posters. I still draw 🙂. In 2018, I became the best employee in the company.
❓What software and hardware do you use, and why?
🗣 I have a computer and a graphic tablet Wacom - everything is standard here, but I draw exclusively in the PaintTool Sai program, created by only one person, Koji Komatsu. Sai weighing 1 megabyte works wonders for terabytes 🙂 Also, recently I, have been drawing on the iPad - an excellent tool, many of my works are drawn on it (for example, the Mandalorian).
❓How do you like to work: as a freelancer, or maybe full-time or part-time?
🗣 I can work as I like 🙂 Now I work in the company and in my free time at home. In general, it would be cool to work for the public, sharing your work with everyone and at the same time somehow getting paid for it 🙂
❓What was your most challenging project, and why?
🗣 To be honest, every project is difficult for me in a sense. You can highlight projects where I needed to draw backgrounds or equipment or at home - I don't like this business 😁 I like drawing characters, their faces, emotions more 🙂 But if they pay good money, then the mood somehow appears 🙂
❓What was your most significant learning experience, and how does it help you now?
🗣 I am self-taught and have never used training courses. But I would single out the artist Sergei Ishmaev, thanks to whom I got acquainted with PaintTool Sai - I am grateful to him.
❓What is your dream project or art direction that you're starving to try?
🗣 Comics, I love to draw them 🙂 I still can't start drawing my comic, because there is very little time. There is a family, children, work, work for yourself, and then the dog runs underfoot. I can't even play games calmly, now it's such a situation that if I sit down to play, my inner voice always tells me - what are you doing? You can do so much cool! I took a week off to go through the Last of Us 2 🙂
❓Can you tell us about a personal or professional project you are proud of?
🗣 In a sense, I am proud of every work! But there are times when you accidentally stumble upon an old drawing and see a whole bunch of flaws 😄 This is with me all the time.
By the way, Ed Boone (the creator of Mortal Kombat) posted my drawing on his Instagram - probably the coolest thing I'm very proud!🙂
❓Do you have any passion projects you're working on or plan to start?
🗣 As I said, my comic. I can't talk about him because a bunch of spoilers immediately fall out, but I just can't start because there is very little time, a big family, you need to feed everyone 😄. Therefore, so far ,only a dream 🙂
❓What are you passionate about and do you have any hobbies besides art?
🗣 I love watching movies - if you can call it a hobby 😄 But a true hobby is drawing 100%. And thousands of likes in social networks as the best reward for your work - this is very inspiring 🙂
❓If you had just one question about anything that you could ask and get an answer, what would it be?
🗣 So all the same: Egg or chicken? 🙂
